Sony's Trinitron is the only picture tube based on a cylindrical model, with a screen face that is flat from top to bottom. Because of this, vertical lines remain straight, and distortion is minimized. The Trinitron tube also significantly reduces glare by reflecting light toward the floor, rather than directly into the viewer's eyes where it can make the picture appear washed out.

With a comb filter, which compares consecutive horizontal scanning lines within a video frame and makes adjustments that purify the image, picture that would otherwise appear blurry is made clear with pure colors and fewer flecks of video noise. The comb filter also allows Trinitron televisions to deliver picture resolution equal to source material, like Sony-brand DSS satellite systems and laser videodiscs.
