Product Description Fifty-three inches is about midway up the screen-size ladder, and Sony's KP-53V80 is about midway up the rear-projection TV feature ladder. It's got plenty of resolution for DVD and satellite sources, plus a bunch of picture enhancements. Its comb filter, a 3D-YC version, is the best of its kind at reducing cross-color and other types of artifacts that plague big-screen sets. Sony provides selectable color temperatures. The protective high-contrast screen is great for shielding the TV from harm but doesn't enhance picture quality. Fortunately, it can be removed. For convenience buffs, Sony's dual-tuner PIP (picture-in-picture) lets you view two programs at once in a variety of ways. The two channels can appear at the same size, side by side. Or you can choose the more traditional configuration of one small window within a larger one. The small box can be moved anywhere around the screen. The KP-53V80 lets you label up to eight of your favorite channels. The remote control, which is preprogrammed to operate other Sony gear and many brands of cable boxes, includes both backlighting and a joystick. S-Link jacks enable communication with other similarly equipped Sony components. An audio system with 20 watts x 2 channels and simulated surround sound completes the feature package.
Amazon.com Product Description This 53-inch projection TV boasts picture-and-picture, a DAC two-way speaker system with 40 watts (20 watts x 2), and TruSurround sound. Also included is Steady Sound automatic volume control with BBE audio enhancement, a new video processor, a discrete video output circuit, front panel menu control, two component video inputs, V-chip parental control, and a luminous universal joystick remote control.

Excellent TV November 26, 1999 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
Looked at many projection TVs and came across this one. This is an excellent TV that shows off the capability of DVDs. The quality of sharpness, color and brightness makes this TV look like a tube. Instead of going out to the movies, buy this and watch them in your home. My only gripe is I wish Sony would made a wide screen projection version of this TV. Speaker quality is OK, and can be used as a center channel in a surround sound system.
Crystal Clear November 11, 1999 Chris Wheeler (pinepost24@aol.com) (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) 51 out of 54 found this review helpful
Do you want a good analog projection tv? Well you've come to the right one. The sony 48" 53" and 61" television's are the best on the market. Crystal clear picture, Two rear component video inputs, Split screen picture in picture with two 27" pictures, Channel surf picture in picture with 27" screen in middle and thirteen smaller pictures around. Automatic color convergance, Ditigal comb filter, Screen saver, and much much more. This is definately my television of choice.
Spectacular Big Screen January 10, 2000 Lorin Williams (Aschaffenburg, Germany) 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
This is by far the best Big Screen out there. The Picture is like your watching a normal television. If you are looking for a big screen and don't want to spend a fortune. This is the big screen for you.
Nice picture / simple controls / great TV April 13, 2000 Wayne Schulz (Glastonbury, CT USA) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
This was my first large screen tv purchase and I was a little apprehensive that the picture might fade from view as you move side to side. The Sony has no fade that I have been able to see. It has a clear picture -- similar to looking at a regular "tubed" TV. The only complaints I have are: a) The remote control is very touchy. The large buttons stick out a ways and I'm always brushing up against them by accident. b) The speakers seem a little underpowered. I don't know if these large screen tvs are meant to have external speakers, but I sometimes have trouble hearing the sound. The brilliant picture however makes up for this shortcoming. I recommend this TV as a real solid purchase. Everyone who has come over remarks on how clear and nice the picture is.
sony 53" tv best there is December 31, 1999 Dorlette Mciver (Warren, Ohio) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I shopped around for various tv's and this one has everything in it that i need. I love the pip and the way that you can preview 13 other channels at one time. Sony has really made everything easy and right at your finger tips in this tv. And what a great price i got it for. You can't go wrong with this one.
