This one's a keeper July 3, 2008 Stevan C. Adelman (mountain view, california) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I purchased a Sony KDL 37M4000 after doing quite a bit of research on 720p LCD TVs. It was the largest size that would fit an existing cabinet, and I'm not a gamer, so I didn't need the 1080p XBR6 for quite a bit more money. I have it hooked up to a Comcast HD Cable Box and a Sony PS3 Gamestation for Blu-Ray discs.
The picture is excellent, particularly in the vivid mode for sports and concerts. It can also easily be calibrated using the remote menu settings to give you exactly what you may be looking for. The blu-ray discs are fabulous at 1080i, but frankly, the Standard Definition DVDs show almost as well at 480p. Also, contrary to what I've read about some LCD TV's, the viewing angle is extremely broad; there is not a significant loss of content from anywhere in the room where the TV is located. I am using component video inputs rather than HDMI inputs, and I have purchased a couple of HDMI connectors which I will eventually use just to see if there's any difference, but the display with component inputs is wonderful. If there is any drawback at all, it's that I can't use the TV remote or cable remote for the PS3 player, but that is a minor quibble indeed. I'd recommend this TV to anyone who wants one for around $1100.00 out the door.
A very nice TV November 1, 2008 Semiretrd (Columbus, Ohio) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Like a previous reviewer, we were in the market for a TV that would fit our entertainment unit. I found this unit at Amazon for $300.00 less than the same model at Best Buy, and it was even less than the Sony L-series model at Amazon (I've since noticed that the cost at Amazon increased in the last week by $100.00). I also ordered the Sony upscaling DVD player and 2 HDMI cables from Amazon with my order.
We have Time Warner Cable, and I needed to upgrade our box for HDTV. The HDMI cables make installation easier - not having to fumble around with those color-coded cables. This is our first HDTV, and we are very impressed with the picture. The set is handsome (gloss black color and rounded corners) and fits our entertainment center perfectly.

Excellent May 28, 2009 D. Zimmerman (Miami, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this TV in October 2008.It was shipped to me, in south Florida, from California and out of the box the picture and sound were great.
I have Dish Network HD service and the receiver to the TV connection is HDMI.I also have a VCR\DVD combo unit connected using component cables.
I have the Sony 32S3000 which is now 20 months old and I calibrated it using AVIA II.So,I used those values for the 37M initially, and after about six weeks of use I calibrated it using AVIA.The value differences were very slight.
I have a feeling the negative reviews are based on initial impressions and maybe there is a bad connection or an incorrect connection. The Sony manual is very informative.
Also, set your receiver to the native resolution of the TV, which is 720P.I also have the sound set to PCM ONLY and the RF MODE on the Dish receiver. This prevents the sound levels from fluctuating in two channel stereo.
I think this TV, as well as my other Sony, are fantastic.I definitly recommend.
Satisfied customer, confused by the naysayers November 18, 2008 The Shrike (Pittsburgh, PA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was pretty surprised to see the negative reviews on this product by more people than not. I haven't experienced any picture problems with this TV. I'm not a big tech guy so I don't pay too much attention to that many specs but I just don't see where the complaints are coming from. Never had a complaint about the colors or picture in general.
The one complain I have is that sometimes it takes a solid 3-5 seconds to change a channel, especially if you're switching to an HD channel. It's kind of annoying if you're switching between two games or two shows when one or the other is on a commercial, but it's not a deal breaker for me at least.
If you're unhappy with this TV you're pretty hard to please in my mind. If that's the case just fork over the money for a Samsung. I thought this set was reasonably priced for a 37" and again other than it not being absolutely perfect I don't have any problem recommending it to someone.
